Okay… I don’t even know where the fuck to start. Here we go. The Grammy nominations were announced Tuesday. Let’s just say, for all the wrong things he has done, the one right thing Kanye did was piss on the Grammys, literally. They fucking suck! I cannot fucking believe that the Grammys are even more disconnected than I ever thought. How in the Fuck are these considered top awards. I just keep giving them another chance, and they continue to leave me speechless in all the wrong ways. The “Best Rap Album” category disregards talent in favor of status and popularity. The Recording Academy continues to show sexist views regarding women in rap and hip-hop. And Abba is nominated in four different categories. We are in 2022, not 1982!! This is a complete, fucking joke!

First, let’s take a look at the “Best Rap Album” nominations. Kendrick Lamar’s “Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers” (yes!), Pusha T’s “It’s Almost Dry” (yes!), Future’s “I Never Liked You” (acceptable), Jack Harlow’s “Come Home the Kids Miss You” (really now?), and DJ Khaled’s “God Did” ( WHAT THE FUCK!). DJ KHALED IS NOT A RAPPER!! Just because he threw every big star he could think of on an album does not mean it is an AOTY. The album is not that good. The only song that is really even worth an honorable mention is “God Did,” and that is simply because of Jay-Z. Khaled doesn’t even rap; my man can only repeat “We the best” until you are absolutely fed up with it. I don’t want to rant, but “God Did” is not worthy of a nomination for “Rap Album of the Year.” It’s a fucking joke. Even Jack Harlow doesn’t deserve to be nominated. He is not overly talented; he isn’t revolutionary in any way. His rhymes are ass. He is a glorified pop star. “Come Home the Kids Miss You” is mid, at best. These two nominations are because of who they are, not what they are doing. There are a lot more deserving talents for this nomination.
The actual album of the year wasn’t even nominated. “Luv 4 Rent” IS FAR AND AWAY ALBUM OF THE YEAR! I’m sorry, Kendrick, but it is. It should even be nominated for the actual “Album of the Year” at the Grammys. Smino is the most revolutionary artist there is right now! Nobody is doing what he is. His rhymes are witty and creative, and the way he mixes R&B, gospel, and more into his rap is reminiscent of Outkast (GOATs). Let’s get this straight, though, “Luv 4 Rent” is a rap album. Plus, Lil Uzi Vert has one of the top features of the year. His verse on “Pudgy” is so impressive. J Cole also has an imposing feature on “90 Proof.” Ooh, that chorus is fucking beautiful. It is impossible to pick a favorite song off the album because the album is S-tier. The whole al. It is the most deserving of any rap album released this year. There were so many other worthy artists too! Redveil and Joey Bada$$ definitely should have received nominations over DJ Khaled and Jack Harlow.
It’s funny that Jack Harlow, the pop star, was nominated in the rap categories, while Nicki Minaj gets blackballed by the Recording Academy. First, they told her that if she submitted “Super Freaky Girl” to the Grammys, she would only be considered for the pop categories. Then, she didn’t even get a nomination for the pop categories. NICKI MINAJ IS ONE OF THE TOP RAPPERS IN THE GAME. She is a much better rapper than Jack Harlow wishes he could be. Her not even being considered for the rap categories is a fucking joke. It shows just how far behind the times the Grammys are. They still see the rap game as a man’s world. They are pushing that because not only was Nicki snubbed, but so was Megan Thee Stallion. She released “Traumazine” roughly an hour of complete vulnerability. She was so brutally honest; that is something we’ve never seen from her. She’s grown so much from her days of “WAP.” She revealed, “bad bitches have bad days too.” Today is a bad day for all the bad bitches in rap. Unfortunately, the Grammys still aren’t giving women in rap a fair chance. The saving grace was that Latto and GloRilla received nominations for their performances. Still, many more female rappers deserved a nomination.
Again, I will not be watching the Grammys. I am very disappointed in their nominations this year. My girl Taylor couldn’t even beat out a group that hasn’t been relevant for 40 years. I don’t know why I continue to let the Grammys do this to me. It’s time that we realize what the Grammys actually are… a popularity contest. It no longer, if ever, has anything to do with the actual work of art. The Grammys should no longer be considered a top award for which musicians and producers strive. I say that, but I know next year, at this time, I will look at the Grammy nominations and be just as disappointed. Will I ever learn?
