I was talking with my friend Taylor the other day, and he said another Buckle manager is roommates with an NBA player. He said that she came home from work one day and that her roommate and three of his teammates were chilling and watching tv. Now, that got me thinking… which NBA player would I want as a roommate? There were a couple of different ways I looked at it. What are the most important qualities? Hilarious? Chill? Someone with style? Ja Morant would be a dope roommate. If I lived with Lebron, we’d celebrate “Taaaccccooo Tuuueeesssdddaaayyy!” James Harden would make me hang out in the strip club all day and night. In no specific order, I would say my top roommates would be Ja Morant, Jayson Tatum, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and DeMar DeRozan. Here is the reasoning behind each of my choices.

SGA makes it simply because of his style. There is no doubt he is the best-dressed in the league. I would get fashion tips and get exclusive access to his closet. Let’s not forget that his collaboration with Converse is some of the freshest new sneakers outside of Jordans. His white Convers Pro Leather is just so clean. You can dress them up with a suit or sweats, but they look the best with some stacked jeans. I could get some family and friends exclusives. Shai would have me looking so fresh and so clean. Shai has also been spotted at fashion week, so I would be sitting front row at New York or Paris fashion week. Does it get any better than that? That’s tough competition, but I think Ja could make it close.

Ja isn’t as stylish as SGA, but let’s not take anything away from his fashion. He has stepped it up since he came up in the league. His tunnel fits often involve a pair of Nikes, usually dunks. The problem is that Ja is a huge Louis Vuitton; he’s worn many LV fits while sitting on the bench. That hurts because I don’t care for Louis. I wouldn’t be able to steal as many clothes from him. He loves Chick-fil-A, NBA Street (video game), and  Lil Baby is his favorite artist. It feels like we could be a match made in heaven. Plus, Ja could have a little fun because he would be able to talk shit about my alma mater, Marquette. Ja and Murray State destroyed Marquette in March Madness.

Now, someone I know I would have a lot in common with is DeMar DeRozan. DeMar is my boy. He currently plays for my Bulls (we are getting that chip this year!), but I have been a fan of his since I became a fan of the NBA. Although people recognize his skill, he is still one of the most underrated in the league. DeMar and I have very similar likes and dislikes. DeMar is a huge music fan. In fact, talking with Bleacher Report, he gives a lot of credit to music. What’s his taste in music? He comes from Compton, so he is a big West Coast rap fan. He loves Tupac and Kendrick Lamar. However, that isn’t all he listens to; he is also a big fan of Jay-Z and, because he spent so much of his career in Toronto, Drake. Our tastes in music would mesh really well. DeMar is an advocate for and has been open about his struggles with depression, something that is also very important to me. He seems like a guy you could kick back and chill with, someone down to earth. Our place would just be a whole vibe.

Another guy I feel like I would get along with is Jayson Tatum. He is often described as soft-spoken and has even said he is different from previous Celtic Kevin Garnett. He has said, “I’m not the most vocal…” I feel like the reason Tatum and I would get along is that we both come from the same area; we could bond over growing up in the St. Louis area. We both love the Cardinals. Tatum also grew up in a single-parent household with his mom. I can relate to that. My mom was both parents, mom, and dad. She did everything to ensure we were successful. The similarity of backgrounds would make it super easy to be close and foster a friendship with Tatum.

It would be so dope to be roommates and friends with an NBA player. I would be friends with almost any NBA player except Joel Embiid. Fuck Joel! I don’t think we would get along very well. I would jokingly bring up Ben Simmons, which would be the end of that. He’d move out the next day. Of all the guys, though, I think my top pick for a roommate would be DeMar. I think we would just hit it off. I feel we have similar personalities and get along really well. Who would you choose as your roommate?
